What is the 1st HUSSARS CALVALRY FUND?
The 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund was incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act as a not-for-profit corporation under Letters Patent – Letters of Incorporation dated May 3rd 2001 File Number 389332-4, and is a registered Charitable Organization under the Income Tax Act.
The 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund replaces and supersedes the 1st Hussars Regiment Trust founded on 31 May 1995
Our Executive


Who are we?
The 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund operates via a Board of Directors who are volunteers and are responsible to ensure that the funds are allocated and spent according to approved projects and follow the objectives of the Corporation, adhering to all requirements under the CRA and Industry Canada.
Volunteers consist of permanent appointed members (CO, RSM, HCol, HLCol, President 1H Association, President Regimental Advisory Council), and rotating members (mix of retired military and non-military volunteers).
As a registered charity, The 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund’s objects or mandate as described in the “Letters of Incorporation” include:
- the expense, writing and publishing a Regimental History;
- the establishment and maintenance of a Museum;
- the enhancement and maintenance of Regimental War Memorials including the tank “Holy Roller” in Victoria Park in London, and “Calamity” in Sarnia;
- the maintenance of the 1st Hussars Honour Roll in the City Hall in London, Ontario;
- the relief of poverty and distress;
- the provision of educational bursaries;
- the reception and maintenance in trust in perpetuity of gifts, donations, memorabilia, accouterments and artifacts on behalf of the 1st Hussars Regiment or any unit thereof;
- the fostering, maintenance and promotion of the traditions, efficiency and wellbeing of the Military Services of Canada.
Donating to the 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund?
- Funds are derived through individual or corporate donations and sponsors or partners.
- Large fund-raising campaigns are usually project driven, for example the preservation of HOLY ROLLER tank in Victoria Park in London and are specific to that project.
- Donations can be made via Canada Helps website, cheques or transfer directly to the Treasurer or to any member of the Executive for the Treasurer.
- Donors can specify a specific project or activity that they want to see their donations used for: general (goes to greatest need), museum, boots on the beach, HOLY ROLLER, cavalry troop, in memoriam, or write in a project eg. medal mounting project for the museum.

The 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund has begun its newest endeavour for those who are interested in including the Cavalry Fund as part of their estate planning, the 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund Legacy Program. Please find more information on the program attached.

How are the donations spent?
Donated funds are used for the benefit of the soldiers, veterans and families of the 1st Hussars Regiment, and those veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) within our community. Adhering to the objects or mandate of the Letters of Incorporation, support is provided across four major pillars:
Preserving our past
- Maintaining and printing the Regimental History
- Operating the 1st Hussars Museum in London
- Acquisition and upkeep of memorabilia, accoutrements and artifacts housed in Regimental lines and the Museum
- Acquisition and maintenance of Dress Uniforms
- Upkeep and maintenance of the Cavalry Troop – riders in period WW1 dress depicting
- B Sqn Canadian Light Horse (1H)
Connecting History
- Maintenance and upkeep of Regimental War Memorials (Holy Roller, Calamity, Bold)
- Honour Roll Plaques (le Mesnil-Patri in France, Honour Roll in London City Hall)
- Education
- Recognition of Veterans
Promoting wellness amongst serving and past serving members and their families
- Relief of poverty and distress
- Active contact with past and serving members
- Partnering with city leaders and organizations to support programs for Veterans and their families
- Education bursaries and awards
- Serving Soldier Recognition
- “Care Packages” for soldiers on deployment
- Hospital visits
Connecting with our communities
- Memorial Services
- School visits, education and displays at community events
- Westlake Brothers outreach to students in France (Juno Beach and Cemeteries)
- “Boots on the Beach” (send two soldiers annually to Juno beach for June 6 D-Day events)
- Outreach community events, D-Day, Remembrance events in London and Sarnia
- Assist in maintaining a 1st Hussars Association of veterans and former members of the Regiment and CAF
- Maintain a 1H Association Website
- Visits to veterans in Hospitals
- Maintain a liaison with the Legion
