1st Hussars Overview
The 1st Hussars is a Primary Reserve Armoured Regiment based in London and Sarnia, Ontario. With a long and storied history, including participation in D-Day and World War II, the regiment operates today as part of the Canadian Army’s Reserve Force.
Armoured Soldier Role
As an armoured soldier, your primary role would involve operating and maintaining advanced military vehicles such as armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs), including the modern variants of tanks and reconnaissance vehicles. You would be trained to:
- Operate armoured vehicles in combat or reconnaissance roles.
- Utilize the vehicle’s communication and weapons systems.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance and repairs in the field.
- Work in close coordination with other units during tactical operations.
Part-time Commitment
Being part of the Primary Reserves allows you to serve part-time, typically one evening a week and one or two weekends a month, with opportunities for full-time employment during the summer or on special missions. It’s a flexible way to contribute to Canada’s defense while pursuing your civilian career or education.
Training and Development
As part of the Reserve, you’ll receive paid training that will equip you with both military and leadership skills. This includes basic military qualification (BMQ) followed by specialized training for armoured operations.
