Regiment
The 1st Hussars Regiment, based in London and in Sarnia, Ontario, is one of Canada’s oldest and most storied cavalry regiments. Established in 1856, the 1st Hussars have a rich history marked by distinguished service in both World Wars, where they played crucial roles in various campaigns, including the famous D-Day landings as part of the Allied invasion of Normandy and most recently the Afghanistan mission.
Today, the 1st Hussars continue to serve as an armoured reconnaissance unit within the Canadian Army Reserve, maintaining their tradition of excellence and readiness. The regiment is deeply rooted in the London and Sarnia communities, participating in ceremonial events, educational outreach, and preserving the proud legacy of those who have served. Joining the 1st Hussars or supporting their Regimental Association means being part of a legacy of courage, tradition, and community service that spans more than a century.
